Grace M. Augustine

Grace M. Augustine, 96, of Old Forge, died Saturday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.  She was the widow of the late Fred Augustine, who she married in 1946.  Fred died in 2017.

Born on March 30, 1929, in Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Josephine Scariato Cerullo. Grace attended Old Forge High School.  In 1946, Grace and her husband moved to Philadelphia and opened Grace’s Luncheonette across from Temple University. They successfully ran a food business and raised three children; Shirley, Frederick, and Christopher.  In 1967, they moved back to Old Forge. After a brief hiatus, they opened the popular Grace’s Hoagies, Clarks Summit.  Until the couple’s retirement in 2009, they operated Grace’s Hoagies, Dickson City. Grace was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge.

Grace is survived by three children, Shirley Karmilowich, Machipongo, VA, Frederick Augustine, Old Forge, Christopher (wife Sarah), Scranton, two brothers, Vito and Theodore Cerullo, one sister, Clementine Cichy, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick.

Grace’s funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street, Old Forge, celebrated by Father Walter Jenkins, C.S.C., Ed.D.  Entombment Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Grace at the funeral home on Thursday morning 8:30 - 9:30 a.m.
