George J. Terruso III, 88, of Duryea, passed away Saturday, surrounded by his family, after a long-fought battle with kidney disease. His wife of over 21 years is MaryEsther Adrian Gibblets Terruso. His first wife, Jean Carter Terruso, passed away in 2001. They had been married 34 years.

Born in Old Forge in 1937, son of the late George and Rose Mattei Terruso, he was a graduate of Old Forge High School Class of 1955, where he served as senior vice class president, and Lackawanna Business College Class of 1956. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1955 to 1963.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton, and Our Lady of the Eucharist, Pittston.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by Topps Chewing Gum and Circuit City. He was a retired member of Teamsters Local 229, and a member of the Felittese Association, where he enjoyed volunteering with his extended family and friends in Old Forge.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Yankees fan. He also enjoyed watching classic boxing films from the 1950s and playing cards at the Old Forge Men’s Club (“The Joint”).

George is also survived by his daughters, Leandra Boyko (George), Rosanne Williams (Patrick), and Chrisann Kelly (Christopher); his sister, Mary Louise Weiner (Michael); sisters-in-law, Cathy Terruso, Sandy Cherkauskas (Geno); and Cindy Fox (Joe); three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Rose Terruso Vitris; his brother, Anthony Terruso; and grandson, George Boyko Jr.

George’s family would like to send sincere gratitude to the staff of Maple Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Kingston and Fresenius Kidney Care in Pittston for their care and compassion.

The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 17, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Moosic. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until Mass. Arrangements by the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge.

Interment, Old Forge Cemetery.
