Francis A. Brutico,Sr. 95, of Old Forge, died Saturday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore surrounded by his loving family.   He was married to the former Marie Mattioli for 67 years.

Born in Old Forge on Feb. 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Anthony Sr. and Rose Salerno Brutico, and stepmother, Mary Vender.  He graduated from Old Forge High School where he was a star basketball player.  Prior to retirement, he was the owner of the West Side Hotel, Brutico’s Rosebud Restaurant, B & S Curb Service, Taylor Pizza Shop, Manager at Pal’s, and Mark II Restaurants.  During World War II, Francis served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with the 102 Field Artillery in the South Philippines and Ryuku Island Campaigns.  For his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, The Philippines Liberation Medal with one star cluster, the Asian Service Medal with five star clusters, and the Bronze Star.  He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge.

Francis enjoyed time with his family, bowling, and the casino.  He was an excellent cook and enjoyed “tinkering” around the house.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli (Francis’s nephew), Comprehensive Medical Home Care, caregiver Nana Beria, and the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the comprehensive medical care given to Francis.

Surviving are two daughters, Roseann Brutico, Old Forge, Sharon Silvon and husband David, Old Forge, five grandchildren, Allison Lucarelli and husband Arthur, Bob Pikulski, Dean Silvon, Mara Silvon, Krista Gillick and husband Kurt, two great-grandchildren, Dante and Jake Lucarelli, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Francis A. Brutico, Jr., a granddaughter, Dana Silvon, and three brothers, Carmen, Anthony, and Angelo.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge, followed by a 10 a.m. mass at Prince of Peace Parish -  St. Lawrence’s Church, South Main Street, Old Forge.  Interment Old Forge Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m
